What is the film about?

Yeh Hai Bakrapur, which means "This is the land of goats" in Hindi, is a film directed by Janaki Vishwanathan and written by her and Azad Alam. The film is set against the backdrop of rural India, where superstitions and blind faith are prevalent. The film follows the story of Zulfi, an eight-year-old boy who loves his pet goat Shahrukh, and his family who are struggling to pay off their debts. When a local barber convinces them that their goat has divine powers, they decide to sell him for a high price. However, things get complicated when Shahrukh becomes a celebrity in the village and beyond, attracting various people who want to exploit him for their own interests. The film is a hilarious take on the absurdities and contradictions that exist in Indian society.

The plot and the characters

The film begins with Zulfi (Shameem Khan) getting a goat as a gift from his uncle. He names him Shahrukh after his favorite Bollywood star. Zulfi's family consists of his mother Suraiyya (Suruchi Aulakh), his father Rizwan (S.N. Ahmed), his elder brother Jaffar (Anshuman Jha), and his sister-in-law Naaz (Yoshika Verma). They live in a small house in Bakrapur village, where they are constantly harassed by their landlord Singhania (Vinay Varma) who wants them to repay their loan or vacate their property.

One day, Jaffar takes Shahrukh to a nearby town for a goat race, where he meets Qureshi (Asif Basra), a barber who claims to have mystical powers. Qureshi tells Jaffar that Shahrukh has a lucky mark on his ear, which means he is blessed by Allah. He convinces Jaffar to let him perform a ritual on Shahrukh to enhance his luck. However, Qureshi secretly paints a symbol on Shahrukh's back that resembles Allah's name in Arabic. He then spreads a rumor that Shahrukh is a holy goat who can grant wishes and miracles.

Soon enough, people from all over the region flock to Bakrapur to see Shahrukh and seek his blessings. Some even offer huge sums of money to buy him. Zulfi's family sees this as an opportunity to get rid of their financial troubles and agrees to sell Shahrukh to Singhania, who plans to use him for political gains. However, Zulfi is heartbroken and tries to stop them from selling his beloved goat. He also faces opposition from Qureshi, who wants to keep Shahrukh for himself, and from Sanghmitra (Sanghmitra Malik), an animal rights activist who wants to save Shahrukh from exploitation.

The film reaches a climax when Zulfi runs away with Shahru b70169992d
